Who is Loren?

Hi! My name is Loren Squires and I’d like to welcome you here. You’re obviously here to learn more about me. So let me get started.
A little history.
I live in Colorado, in a Denver suburb. I moved here from the frozen tundra of the northern mid-west about six years ago. The climate here alone is worth the move. Since being here in Colorado a lot has happened. Too much of it out of my control.
I don’t want to bore you with a long drawn out sob story of my past. But let me just say this, I know what its like to be laid off, its happened to me twice. I know what its like going through periods of unemployment. I know what its like to take a 35% cut in pay, just to have a job. I’ve even been told that if I heal up after a near fatal car crash quicker than what it takes my boss to find a replacement, that I could keep my job. It’s a little difficult to speed up the healing process, so I lost that job. (Probably a good thing.)
So if you’ve been through layoffs, unemployment, and looking for jobs, and seeing your options quickly dwindle, and your career and life spinning out of control, I know some of what you’re going through. I’ve been through that myself.
So, not really liking my conditions at the time, I took a long hard look at myself, and what had been happening. And I saw some things I wasn’t to happy about.
I began to realize that I had to take back control of my life. Things were happening that should not have been, and I didn’t have the means to prevent them.
Time to make a change.
I finally said enough is enough. There has to be a better way.
I decided that I would take any and all steps necessary to make a better life for myself.
I had to get in charge of my income, in charge of how I spend my time, and in charge of my life’s direction.
I wanted to spend my time on more than just work, and I wanted to spend my money on more than just bills. I wanted more hobbies, and more time to enjoy them. I wanted to be able to give of my self, sometimes money, sometimes time and effort. I wanted more freedom. Basically, the bottom line is that I wanted more life
That’s why I decided to start my own business, be my own boss, work for myself, or whatever you want to call it. What it boils down to is being in charge. In charge of my resources, my time, the people that I choose to work with, and that surround me, and in charge of life itself. I grabbed for all the control I could get.
Now I know I can’t control everything. Its still going to rain when I don’t want it to. My favorite sports teams are going to loose some games, and I will never be 21 years old again. I guess I can live with these items, after all I am only human. But I won’t be a numbed out, go with the flow, just floating down the storm sewer of life awaiting whatever befalls me kind of person again. Never! Ever! After all, enough of that is probably too much.
What I stand for.
In the spirit of you learning more about me and what it is I stand for, and some of my beliefs, I’ve compiled a little list. Nothing to personal, or boring I hope. Just to give you a little insight into the inner workings of me. I hope you don’t mind.
I believe:
- That life should be an adventure.
- Common sense is getting less common.
- The thrill should never be gone.
- Being human is sometimes strange.
- In saying what I mean, and meaning what I say.
- Honesty is paramount.
- That I’m not the center of the universe.
- In lifelong learning.
- God is important.
- Listening to the blues can be good medicine for the blues.
- Unbifurcated is far more comfortable. Yes I’m Scottish.
- Another name for the garage is’ the men’s crisis center’.
- In long bending shots into the upper corner just past the goalkeeper’s outstretched fingertips.
- That more acceptance, and less condemnation would make the world a better place.
What I watch.
| Soccer – I love this game. I played in high school and college. This truly is the ‘Beautiful Game’. Its got so much art, and grace. I watch mostly the English Premier League, and the Spanish La Liga. My favorite time is Arsenal, closely followed by Barcelona. | ![]() |
| Rugby – If Soccer is the ‘Beautiful Game’ then Rugby is the ‘Magnificent Game’. These blokes are completely crackers! They will smash each others noggins till the final whistle, then go out together for a few pints. I mostly watch the Magner’s League. This league includes the professional teams from Ireland, Wales, and Scotland. | ![]() |
What I do, (my hobbies).
| Off Road – This is how I get up and enjoy the mountains. You can have a lot of fun at1 – 3 mph. The scenery is fantastic, and the driving can be challenging. And you can discover a lot of history like old ghost towns and old mines. | ![]() |
| Cycling – I don’t do this nearly enough. It is great exercise, without any impact. (unless you crash.) I also find it’s a great stress reliever, and gives me time to just let my mind wander a bit. And sometimes its just fun to go out and beat your brains out riding as fast as you can. I also follow the Tour de France religiously. July is my least productive month. |

Well, there you have it. Sort of me in a nutshell. Probably not a complete picture, but enough so you know a little bit more about me than before you discovered my blog.
